Bronyville Episode 009 – Friendship Needs Pics or It Didn’t Happen

Dear Princess Celestia,

Today, Chef Sandy and I had Vanilla Bean on the show who is a very awesome female brony who happens to work in the comic book industry. Let us take a moment to mention for FREEKING AWESOME this is! Anyway, we chatted a bit about you and how your likely not the evil tyrant many of your followers make you out to be, how someponies say some bad things about this community, and we finally deal with that ‘cupcakes’ thing once and for all. Then we have a chat about what makes Equestria so great! I’m sure you will love it as will our superdy duper adoring fans! Woah, channeled some Pinkie there.

Come on now, Cupcakes isn’t that bad. I read it and really didn’t get chills until Pinkie decided to stuff all of her friends. I think it’s the fact that it just isn’t well written enough to creep me out, though I guess I’m not one to talk. 😛

Another awesome episode as always, guys. Glad to see the show getting a little cerebral. Can’t wait for next week.

Don’t listen to them, Chef Sandy! You CAN mention Paradise twice. Or even three times.

  4. I’m glad you liked the letter and am flattered you read it. 🙂

Of course, I fully agree that this show is meant to relate to kids and so, on the surface level, Celestia need only be a mother figure. But, I like think of her being deeper than that. But then, I think the episode covered that pretty well.

Still my favorite brony podcast. Keep up the great work!

  5. Awsome show.
I didnt know we have so many bronies here in Hungary.
I havent met any in person yet, and i do make subtle(dont wanna blow my cover just yet:D) hints to the show sometimes.

Replying to Geldon, and I’m really tempted to make this an email, but here it goes . . .

I think Celestia appears to be such a wise, flawless character because to kids, parents appear to be wise and flawless. Celestia is fairly expertly crafted to appear to be to the ponies what a 1-13 year old’s parent looks like to them. Physically far bigger, experience and wisdom of ancient proportions, idealized, in charge, and always in control.

And I think Tyrant/Trollestia is so popular, not because it gives her flaws, but because it subverts her character in a funny way.

Think I should send this as an email to continue the discussion?

  7. Yeah, Cupcakes is under-appreciated. It’s grimdark, to be sure. But the author (while clearly in need of an editor) is obviously a fan. Applebloom’s turn makes that quite clear.

It may not be your cup of, well, cake, but for what it is it is pretty well done.
